View your records

A law was passed in 1998 called The Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) which gave rights to all UK care leavers to view their child care records. This means that when you are 18 years old, you can view your records from your time spent in care if you wish to.

Accessing your child care records can be daunting, exciting, exhilarating and also upsetting for you so you need to think very hard about when and why you do it.  Speak to the important people in your life about it before you make the decision.  For many, it is a very positive experience.
