What's a Conference?

There are two kinds of Child Protection Conference, an Initial Child Protection Conference and a Review Child Protection Conference.

The Initial Child Protection Conference is a meeting to decide if a young person is likely to be seriously harmed because of the way they are being treated at home. If the meeting decides that they are likely to be harmed, the people there have to come up with a plan to try to make sure the child is not harmed any more. This is called a Child Protection plan.

After a few months there will be a Review Child Protection Conference to decide if the plan has worked.  There might need to be more than one Review Child Protection Conference before the people at the meeting can be sure that the plan has worked, but they should not go on any longer than two years.
